It is a fact that facebook is US's biggest online social network and is the second most visited site on the planet. At the same time it is also a reality thaty the reputation of Facebook is going down. Facebook helps us stay connected to our friends and family, which is extremely important. We know that Facebook is privately owned, so they can do what they want and don’t have to answer to shareholders. Although we feel that they should respond to us and give us more options.

Although Facebook is still the US's biggest online social network, it's not the only option.  If Facebook is not for you, there are plenty of alternatives and you can invite your friends to come join.

Here are a few of these potential best Facebook alternatives:

Diaspora: Facebook members who are fed up with keeping up with the Facebook changes may find this new network to be attractive and will likely be following its progress closely.

MySpace: MySpace once dominated the social networking scene until Facebook upped it from its #1 position. While no longer reigning at the top, it is still a viable and alternative network that many people are still using. It is possible this network may find a lot of members disillusioned with Facebook finding their way back to MySpace.

Windows Live: People who already use Windows Messenger or have a Hotmail account are already automatically included in the network with their user name. The Windows Live network includes the ability to share photos, conversations, join groups, and add their favorite other sites to be linked in.

In addition Live has the capability for members to link and use their cell phones to stay in touch.

Google Buzz: Recently launched in February 2010, web giant Google has added this capability that works straight from gmail. The company states "We focused on building an easy-to-use sharing experience that richly integrates photos, videos and links, and makes it easy to share publicly or privately (so you don't have to use different tools to share with different audiences). Plus, Buzz integrates tightly with your existing Gmail inbox, so you're sure to see the stuff that matters most as it happens in real time" (Google Blog).

These are a few of the general social networking sites, however there are plenty of other niche oriented networking sites to check out:

DeviantArt.com - A popular network geared towards artists or those interested in art.

Classmates.com - Still alive and kicking, this site is designed for those looking to find old classmates and colleagues.

LinkedIn.com - A network geared towards professional self-marketing and career opportunities that is heavily frequented by many people.

Twitter.com - while not quite a Facebook, this site has grown tremendously in popularity over the last couple of years.

One thing about the web, it is continuously growing and changing and today's Facebook may be tomorrow's something else. In the world of innovative technology and web development, it is not a given that any network will reign at the top for indefinite amounts of time.
